Today I received a lovely smelling package in the mail. It was a veritable treasure trove of perfume oils from Nocturne Alchemy and VApothecary.
Serpentine Ankh: Egyptian Musk of the original Nokturne single note, ether of Egyptian Sandalwood and far east wind arising and exhaling from the Nile and slumbering into the subtle spice of Nokturne:Crimson (Egyptian Red Musk).
Serpentine Ankh is blended with crisp green apple and dusting sweet cinnamon, clove and brown sugar on top…kind of like warm apple pie actually (was not our intent, but sometimes good things come from ‘just because’).
In bottle: Crisp red apples!
Wet on skin: Apple and a little bit of spice. I always get nervous around this combination because it tends to go craft storish on me. So far so good but this smells more red apple to me than green apple.
Dry on skin: Something soft is coming out….I think it’s a soft blending of the musk and sandalwood. The spices are floating around and it really does smell like apple pie. The red musk wafts out at the very end.
Verdict: Ooooh, a spicy apple scent I can wear….yay! I have a hunch this will only get better with a chance to rest and I’d love to smell it layered with N: Dark or something deep and mysterious smelling.
Eternal Ankh Dark: Kyphi, White Amber, Dark Amber, N2, Snow Musk, Allspice, Egyptian Vanilla Husk, Vanilla fleck and African White Vanilla.
In bottle: Green sharp and cold.
Wet on skin:Snow musk and something darkly aquatic.
Dry on skin: I can fully smell the snow musk and something almost pine…maybe the kyphi and allspice? Everything eventually softens and really blends together, it’s like sitting on your porch watching heat lightning on a hot summer night, right before it starts to rain.
Verdict:The combo of the incense and aquatic is different and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like. Once it settled down it really blossomed and I love it. I bet this will only get better with age.
Nokturne: Dark Moonstone (FEx May 2012): Nokturne:Moonstone, a drop of NAs Black Kyphi, Black Amber, Clovebud Essential Oil, Blackened Woods and a drop of Nokturne: Crystal.
In bottle: Whoa….this is delicious smelling, like a big fat vanilla marshmallow sprinkled with expensive cocoa powder.
Wet on skin: The clovebud essential oil is right up front with just a little bit of the vanilla following behind. I can just start to pick out the black kyphi.
Dry on skin: Oh this is really pretty…the yummy vanilla of the Moonstone is perfect with the blackened amber and woods and clove.
Verdict: This is really pretty and is only going to get better with age! It’s also going to be a perfect layering oil.
Nokturne Crimson Rez (FEx May 2012): RESURRECTED Crimson debuted in the beginning of 2008. Pure 100% Imported Red Egyptian Musk. Much like the original Nokturne (the clear Egyptian Musk), this one has a slight hint of spice and a hue of red tinged throughout the oil. It is evocative of long summer evenings after basking in the sun and having your skin warmed by the sun, the aroma lifts around you and brings a simple Egyptian bliss of royalty.
In bottle: Oh yeah, that’s red musk!
Wet on skin: This is actually really pretty. It’s exactly what it says it is, a spicy red musk but not in a craft store kind of way.
Dry on skin: Wow, this is amazing. It’s hot and sultry and sexy….perfect for date night or naked movie night.
Verdict: I’m *super* happy that I got a bottle of this and am eagerly looking forward to putting it away and trying it again in a couple of months!
Anti-Venom Nouveau LE: Blood Orange Rind, Egyptian Sweetened Ginger, Spun Egyptian Sugar, Egyptian Black Vanilla, Moonstone and Crystal.
In bottle: Orange candy.
Wet on skin: Orange sugar goodness. It’s definitely the smell of the orange rind and I’m loving it. Normally I don’t like orange scents at all but this is really nice.
Dry on skin: Oh man….I just love the Anti-Venoms and this one is no exception. The black vanilla an ginger are dancing around the orange and it’s divine!
Verdict: If you like ‘pink sugar’ scents but want something a little less cloying and with more depth, then you should pick this up!
Plumeria Sapphire SE (violet bottle): Egyptian Plumeria, Hawaiian Spring Plumeria, White Jasmine amidst the gem of Amber and Musk (Nokturne:Sapphire). A scent to wear for that special moment alone or with another. + Nokturne:Kobalt, Allspice Essential Oil and Aged Amber of Nepal.
In bottle: Green and floral with a hint of spice.
Wet on skin: Something slightly green with the velvety Sapphire lurking just underneath.
Dry on skin: Yum….imagine taking the original Plumeria Sapphire and mixing in a little bit of vanilla marshmallow a lot of sex and this is what you’d get.
Verdict: The original Plumeria Sapphire is the only white floral perfume oil that has worked for me and I adore it. I think I may actually like this one a little more. Whoa.
Karkade Summer: Sapphire LE: Hibiscus Leaf of Aswan, Sugar Resin, Nokturne:Sapphire and Egyptian and Indian Black Tea.
In bottle: Dark fruit musk.
Wet on skin: I can definitely smell the hibiscus leaf and black tea. After just a little bit the sugar resin appears. It’s starting to smell just a little soapy at this point.
Dry on skin: Ok, the soapiness disappeared and it a strong black spice tea on me. I don’t get any of Sapphire but maybe with a little age? At the very end, something velvety appears….I wonder if it’s a little whiff of Sapphire?
Verdict: It’s a really pretty scent and I’m going to age it a little and see how it blossoms.

In bottle: Spicy, rich and warm.
Wet on skin: Straight up cinnamon with some peppercorn and clove.
Dry on skin: The woods have shown up and given it almost a menthol vibe and I kinda like it. As it softens the menthol vibe goes away and it goes back to cinnamon.
Verdict: So it ended up spicy cinnamon in the end with just a flash of clove. Nice but a little one dimensional for me. I’ll try it again in a month or so.

In bottle: Soft Patchouli.
Wet on skin: Oh yeah, lovely patchouli there you are. Soon the patchouli settles down and something even more earthy and woody shows up.
Dry on skin: Oh wow, this is super gorgeous. Everything had settled down just a little bit and blended together into a great party. Yes, it’s patchouli but it’s creamy and lush and sexy.
Verdict: Patchouli lovers dream! Only it smells like spicy expensive and exclusive patchouli and I’d bet my bottom dollar it’s going to age beautifully.
