Jet City Burlesque Polish Collection by Joy Lacquer

Hotties, I have exciting news to share with you! It’s so nice to find new vendors to work with but it’s even better when that vendor is close and lovely to work with. We recently welcomed Joy Lacquer into The Rhinestone Housewife family and now we’ve launched our new collaboration – the Jet City Burlesque Polish collection! This collection is near and dear to my heart and I really believe it’s got something for everyone. Available exclusively at The Rhinestone Housewife.

We were lucky enough to have some wonderfully talented bloggers swatch and review this collection so I am going to start with those, then you can see individual photos and listings below. If you are at all into nail polish and nail art, I highly recommend that you follow all of these lovely bloggers and swatchers.

Pampered Polishes – You can see a really fun YouTube video of the polishes being swatched and some quick thoughts and comments. If you like what you see, subscribe to the channel and like the videos. Each of these ladies was a gem to work with and so talented!

Caffeinated Cuticles – Even more video swatch fun Part 1 and Part 2 and also two blog posts to check out here and here.  The macros are gorgeous!

Polish and Paws – There are some beautiful collages and beautiful long nails to check out on this blog post.  I have photography and nail envy.

Lacquered Mama – More amazingness to be found in this blog post.  Macros, bottle pictures and really beautiful nails to be seen all over her blog and Instagram….check them out!

So, if you are mesmerized by all the sparkle and color, you can check them all out!

Boylesque – Considered part of the Neo-Burlesque revival, boylesque is the term used to describe male performers in burlesque. While boylesque was not invented in Seattle, Seattle enjoys a vast variety of talented performers. This color is a soft khaki green with warm brown undertones and it applies like a dream. It’s both masculine and feminine at the same time, with a light green shimmer and flawlessly smooth minky finish.

Burly-Q – A nickname many performers use for burlesque. Burly-Q the nail color, starts with a stunning jungle-green base and contains scattered multi-sized opalescent glitter in shades of blues and lime greens. There is a multitude of green/blue and turquoise holographic micro glitter. It’s also lightly sprinkled with subtle pink/purple sparks, giving the jelly polish an astonishing depth. The squishy teal base is perfect for yielding to each of the fine elements; truly dimensional! Opaque in 2-3 coats and 3,2, Oh! top coat is recommended for a smooth, glossy finish.

Glitter Lips Red. Sparkly. Glamorous. A prerequisite of stage, the sexy look of red glitter lips is one of the most recognized elements of burlesque. Glitter Lips is a bright candy apple nail color with shades of scarlet, maroon, crimson and vermilion red micro glitter. This gorgeous red has a scattered holographic finish that works perfectly with it’s cranberry jelly-type base. Opacity is reached in 2-3 coats and top coat is recommended. If a pink glitter shade is more up your alley, see Glitter Lips’ glorious cousin The Rhinestone Housewife!

Hottie McNaughty  A local Seattle performer, Hottie has been described as the love child of Bugs Bunny and Carol Burnett. Hottie was known for using humor and ‘giving good face’ in her performances and performing to odd and unique music. One of her signature stage colors being orange, the polish made to represent her started with a fire-y tangerine base semi-creme base. It’s scattered with orange and contrasting purple iridescent glitter ranging from medium to large sizes. The more subtle elements include blue, orange and gold microglitter shimmers, giving this crelly (creme-jelly) a fantastically cheerful finish.

Lost a Pastie! –  Equal parts titillating and horror inducing, losing a pastie happens. You never know when or where but it strikes terror in the hearts of club owners in the Seattle area due to liquor laws. Lost a Pastie the polish, is a marvelous interpretation of nude encrusted with Swarovski crystal. It’s packed with holographic silver and gold glitter that appeals to the sparkle fanatic in all of us. It also contains a range of ultra-luminous orange, pink, teal and purple opalescent glitters. The nude polish base contains a light blue flash that subtly complements the abundant glitter effects, and creates a truly exhilarating finish.

Neo-Burlesque –  Neo-Burlesque is the revival of burlesque performance. Though based on the traditional Burlesque art, the new form encompasses a wider range of performance and neo-burlesque acts can range from classic striptease to modern dance to comedic and witty parody. For 2018 color of the year, Neo-Burlesque was created with an ultra-violet purple base and packed with gold/copper chrome micro-flecks. Scattered throughout is an ultra-fine holographic dust and electric blue flecks. The finish is smooth as butter and in the direct sun, you’ll see a beautiful linear holographic effect.

Pink Door –  Whether triple, colored or hidden, burlesque performances happen behind many different doors in the Seattle area. Every collection needs a soft pink hue and this one fits the bill as perfectly as the ballet pink slipper it was inspired by. Soothing and pleasant, Pink Door has a true creme finish and is opaque in 1-2 coats.

Show At Midnight  Burlesque being a slightly subversive form of entertainment, frequently shows were speak easy style and later in the evening. A salute to the midnight hour, this polish is a shimmering, deep navy with scattered holographic glitter and an ever-so-subtle lapis blue sparkle. It’s everything you’d imagine when envisioning the dimensionally deep sky and tiny far-off galaxies, this incredible space blue is opaque in 2 coats.

Stage Kitten –  This is the term used for the stage assistants that are responsible for gathering the performers garments after they strip out of them. The true unsung heroes of burlesque! Stage Kitten is a warm taupe, almost leaning mauve. The color looks as soft as a kitten and it’s finish is a rich true creme, similar to the color of a perfect vanilla latte. Opacity is easily reached in 2 coats.

The Rhinestone Housewife –  A tagline given to Hottie McNaughty, it embodies everything that Hottie stood for. A sparkly house with a quirky gem-of-a-hostess. This raspberry color is the pink cousin of our luscious red Glitter Lips polish. It sparkles and shimmers with facets just like that of it’s namesake. Silver sparks with a chrome effects are scattered in with copious amounts of pink holographic microglitter in shades of magenta, punchy pink strawberry and bubblegum. This mouthwatering shade is a must-have for pink polish lovers.

Healing My Nails After Removing Acrylics

Hotties! Over a year ago I got tired of my ridged, lined, peeling and ugly nails.  I have always had ugly nails. They grew weird and were weak and bendy and not awesome. So I got acrylics. I loved them!  They were long, and pointy and the polish and nail art stayed on forever without chipping….it was great! Well I finally got tired of spending the time and money to keep them up so I removed them.

Oh.

The horror.

The ugly, ugly horror of what they looked like when I’d removed the acrylic. And they hurt. Real bad. In this post, I am going to show you how I went from this (taken 6/21/17):

after removal

To this (taken 1/3/18):

after

The first thing I’m going to say is that it’s a LOT of work. I did some research and settled on a routine that I thought would work for me. I was lucky enough to participate in a product test by Different Dimension, their cuticle oil called Boost, which can be found here.

It is described as: Boost contains a special mix of Lavender Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil, and Myrrh Essential Oil. Use to help strengthen and grow out weak nails!
Lavender – Helps strengthen nails, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties help to keep bacteria from infecting cuticles. Hydrating properties
Lemon – Helps to brighten weak and dull nails. High levels of Vitamin C (natural antioxidant) nourishes cuticles helping to strengthen nails. Helps with discoloration of nails from removing polish.
Myrrh – Has amazing hydrating properties, helps to prevent dry and brittle nails (which lead to breaks). Has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties

I was instructed to use this up to five times daily, and use regular hand moisturizer and take a photo each day. The photos below and days 1-14 in order of the progress. The only polish I used was Sally Hansen Hard As Nails as I found it was thick enough to really protect my thin and damaged nail and nail beds.

Day 3

Day 4

Day 10

Day 12

Day 13

Day 14

As you can see, it’s a slow road to heal your nails and cuticles.  Once the 14 day product test was over, I started adding in other treatments. After doing some research I found a few things that are great for healing nails and cuticles and keeping them happy and healthy.

Dead Sea Salt – Dead Sea salt naturally contains over 20 beneficial minerals, most of which are effective for improving nail health.

Lemon Juice – Lemon juice contains antioxidant vitamin C which protects nails, removes stains, and encourages stronger growth.

Olive Oil – Olive oil is one of the best moisturizers for nails (plus skin and hair, too!)

Honey – Honey is packed with enzymes to nourish and heal skin, and it’s a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the skin.

Using a rotating variety of the above ingredients, I soaked my nails 2-3 times a week for 5-10 minutes each time.  The most common combos were sea salt and lemon, and honey and olive oil.  Sometimes I got crazy and did honey, lemon juice and sea salt!  Go wild! I really do think these helped.

I also found this amazing nail hardener called Quimica Alemana nail hardener and it’s worked like magic for me.  I will warn you, it’s got formaldehyde in it so if that’s a no-go for you, you should skip this.  Also read the reviews as some people are very sensitive to it. At first, I applied as directly, only to the top half of my nail and I had a burning sensation so I took it off immediately (I patched tested it on one nail). I waited a couple more weeks and then tried it again, but put it over Sally Hansen Hard As Nails and that worked like a charm. I did that for a couple more weeks, then tried the Quimica Alemana directly on my nail and it was fine. I have been using it ever since. It’s fairly thick and takes a while to completely dry but it’s worth it.  My nails have never looked better!

I also started taking Biotin and religiously use cuticle oil or balm and keep my hands moisturized at all times. I make sure to wear gloves when doing dishes or cleaning and that has also helped a lot. I also switched to a glass nail file, which has helped to keep my nails from peeling when I shape them.

So there it is, that’s how I took my nails from wrecked to decked! Do you guys have any special tips and tricks that you use?

Poesie Perfume Review

Hello hotties!  I know it’s been a while but I wanted to post up a review of a great new company that I tried for the first time, Poesie Perfumes! I really appreciated the fact that I was able to purchase the small apothecary bottles, a typical 5ml bottle as well as a larger 9ml bottle.  Customers love options! The branding on the packaging was spot on and quite posh. Everything arrived safe and sound.

Purchased:
Enchantress of Numbers: clean lemon and fresh lavender, corrupted by a ribbon of caramel and sweet amber.
In bottle: Clean and herby.
Wet on skin: Bright and lemony with a healthy whiff of lavender.
Dry on skin: As it dries down the caramel peeks out and it’s quite lovely with the lavender.  The sweet amber grounds everything with a dash of woodsy goodness.
Verdict: Quite lovely and would make a wonderful sleepy scent as well as a nice soft scent for those times you want something comforting and relaxing. Stays fairly close with medium sillage.
******
Codename Madeleine: rich butter cookies, heady jasmine blossom, bright cardamom.
In bottle: Sugary cardamom with soft jasmine.
Wet on skin: The jasmine is right up front and it’s gorgeous….rich and lush.
Dry on skin: As it dries I get a lovely waft of sugar cookies but they aren’t too buttery, they are nice and sugary.  The cardamom is lovely and fresh and it’s absolute perfection with the jasmine blossom.
Verdict: Jasmine is one of those notes that never seems to work for me but this blend is absolutely perfect….just gorgeous! I’ve been wearing it non-stop since I got it.  If you like a nice combination of foodie but but not too gourmand and jasmine with some spice, this is for you!
*******
Just Like Heaven:  delicate lavender, heavenly marshmallow accord, resinous incense.
In bottle: Green and herby.
Wet on skin: First up is the lavender which is quite soft and cloud like – I think that’s the fluffy marshmallow. The lavender becomes a bit more sharp as the incense starts to blossom.
Dry on skin: The incense and lavender are combining to become an interesting combination of heavy and light. The marshmallow provides a nice cloud of sugary sweetness but it isn’t cloying.
Verdict: I’ll admit that I liked this a lot more than I thought I would.  It’s a warm a sexy scent, spicy but not at all artificial smelling. If you like resinous scents, you like this one.
******
Sixties Salad:  tangy pineapple, delicate pistachio, fluffy marshmallow.
In bottle: Very sweet and lightly fruity.
Wet on skin:  The first thing I get is pineapple and a brief whiff of pistachio.
Dry on skin: As it dries down, I get a lemony vibe with the sweetness of the marshmallow.  It’s not listed, but I swear I’m getting a light toasted coconut as well.
Verdict: If you like sweet, fruity scents, then you’ll like this. If you liked the tangy and weird fruit salad that you grandma made for holidays, then you’ll probably lie this as well. It’s light and whimsical.
******
Fan Dance:  sugar-dusted tart raspberries, vanilla bean.
In bottle: Sweet and fruity.
Wet on skin: It’s all tart raspberries right at first with a swirl of sugar. The vanilla bean is quite  soft at this point.
Dry on skin: It’s dried down to smell like tart fruit dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with feathery vanilla syrup.
Verdict: This is a warm, sweet fruity blend that smells pretty much like how you’d expect it to. If you like sweet foodie blends, you’ll love this!
******
Too Dreamy: maraschino cherry, sweet amber, creamy sandalwood, rich oud, skin musk, green cherry stem.
In bottle: Woodsy and musky.
Wet on skin: It’s all woods and musk at first with a snap of green.
Dry on skin: The is the star now and it seems to be best friends with the musk. I’m still getting the green cherry stem but not really any of the maraschino cherry.
Verdict: If you like a heavier and more substantial blend, this might be for you. This comes off as unisex for me and would be equally appealing to those who like spicy or woodsy scent.  It’s not head shoppy at all to me. Good sillage and throw.
******
The Aviation:  candied violets, spicy juniper, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a hint of cherry.
In bottle: cherry accord liquor.
Wet on skin: It actually smells a lot like the cocktail! It’s a light ethereal violet at first with a nice base of the juniper.
Dry on skin: As it dries down it’s become very soft and quite pretty. The lemon is giving it a nice zing and the sugary violets and cherry is so juicy.
Verdict: This is one of my favorite cocktails and I’m happy to say that this is also one of my favorite perfume oils. It’s sophisticated, sexy and unexpected. If you like a scent that’s not right up in your face, you’ll like this.  I could see this being a great warm weather scent. This stays close, like a comfy sweater. Medium sillage and throw.
******
Frosted Hummingbird:  Notes: toasted pecans, buttery cake, warm cinnamon, decadent cream cheese frosting, juicy pineapple, sweet banana.
In bottle: Rich and buttery.
Wet on skin: This is super buttery and rich with the heavy frosting, and the toasted pecans are just dancing around the edge.
Dry on skin: Now it starting to smell like a succulent pineapple that is just ever so lightly garnished on top of the frosting. There is just a touch of banana.
Verdict: If you’re a fan of gourmands, you will like this.  It’s very heavily foody with the cake and cream cheese frosting. Medium sillage and throw.
My two favorites are Codename Madeline and The Aviation.

Filthy Farmgirl Now Available At The Rhinestone Housewife

Sometimes you find a product that just know you want to showcase at The Rhinestone Housewife. That’s definitely what happened when I stumbled upon Filthy Farmgirl and their hilarious bevy of body care.  Everything about this company and their products appealed to me from their irreverent style to the affordable price point. The bar soap is a generous 7oz and sells for $8. There are too many to list them all out on the blog, but I’ve featured a few of my favorites. You can see the rest of them here.

Filthy Pussy Soap – Rose Mint scented the label is just adorable. I know it’s definitely leaning to the, ahem…naughty side but with a kitty face that adorable, how could you resist? $8

And last but not least, body lotion!  I don’t know about  you, but I am a scaly girl right about this time of year. I would describe this lotion as light but full coverage.  In other words, it glides on easily and not greasy but does seem to fully hydrate your skin. There are several scents to choose from located here.  They sell for $18 for 8oz.

My current favorite is the Tiger Chai. It’s delicious but not overpowering and kept my skin smooth and soft all day.

I feel that to tell the story of Countess Erzebet Bathory never does the tale justice, as the entire truth of her crimes of depravity aren’t known for sure as she is known as one of the most prolific serial killers of all time, killing up to 650 women. It is said that she would summon young virgin women from the villages that surrounded her castle to come and work in her household which was a wonderful and prestigious dream come true for a peasant girl of such a lowly social stature. Sadly, the dreams of these women were soon dashed by the sadistic Bathory who, believing that it would grant her eternal youth, she would drain these unlucky young ladies life’s blood into her bath where she would luxuriate in the exsanguination – one of the most diabolical beauty treatments of all time!

BATHORY – Conjure Cosmetics Facial Serum: 100% cruelty free and 100% vegan. Inspired by the darkness of the Hallows season, I have developed the most amazing, Goth girl skin facial serum. It is all natural, non greasy and won’t clog pores. It is a blood red oil infused with alkanet root that is used to soothe skin irritation. The oil is a blend of deeply nourishing and softening fractionated coconut oil, wild crafted marula oil that is moisturizing, balancing, softens fine lines and reduces redness and organic sea buckthorn oil that heals sun damaged skin, acne, anti oxidants that slow the aging process, heals rosacea and other skin discolorations. Essential oils of rose, frankincense, patchouli and palo santo are gently added to soften skin, fight the aging process and lighten the complexion. This is a limited edition product at this price so don’t wait!

The Rhinestone Housewife loves Conjure Oils and we are always excited to see what new and exciting things they send out way.

Once Upon A Dream Limited Edition Soy Melts – The perfect alternative for home scenting and mood making without an open flame

Break off one or two blocks (depending on your scent strength preference), place into melter of your choice (yes our melts are compatible with Scentsy melters), and enjoy!

Clean up is a breeze, remove melting dish and wash in warm soapy water or pour spent wax into a heat safe disposable container, wipe down melting dish with a paper towel and then you’re ready for some more. Some scents are only available in melts and not candles, please view the scent list below you may find some surprises!

Aegis of the Owl: In honor of both the bold and wise Athena a blend that calls to her and her patrons. Athena, also referred to as Athene,is the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. She is known most specifically for her strategic skill in warfare and is often portrayed as companion of heroes and is the patron goddess of heroic endeavor. Imbued with all the goddesses favorite things fruits, flowers, and sacred trees Aegis of the Owl is a sylvan unisex blend with notes of grapefruit, citruses, geranium, spruce and cypress on a soft suede bed. Use this scent to help inspire a little wisdom and heroism of your own.

Bombadil: “Come along, tell me now, who’s this jolly fellow?
Bright blue his jacket is and his boots are yellow,
With lemon cake and blueberry jam-oh,
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!”

A MOST delicious lemon butter cake that has a great balance of sweet and tart, only to be complimented with an incredibly jammy blueberry jam and the tiniest touch of spice. Unlike a lot of gourmand scents Bombadil is cheery, light, delightful—and dare I say addictive.

Mint Mysticism: The ultimate cooler! A blend of fresh mints, basil and an earthy twist.  It’s creamy, minty herbal fresh, a new religion; Mint Mysticism!

Midnight Margarita: a blend of citrus and the star; puckery West Indian lime. Juicy and fresh skin refreshment.

Practical Magic: A very practical blend for a fresh clean start or to shake some bad juju. Herbal lavender, clary sage and a few extra secret herbs from near the garden gate accompany this bright fresh blend.

Renaissance Faire: The Renaissance Faire scent is an amalgamation of my favorite scent memories of the faire. Heady- but bright jasmine and roses from the herbalists hut behind the big cauldron, softly smoky sweet incense swirling everywhere, and that super refreshing black mint tea, that no matter how you try you just can’t seem to make the same way at home. Everything good about the faire without being the typical food scent.

Verbena: Sally is really putting that herbal magic to work here. This soap is bright and fresh as her small shop! Sweet citruses blended with white sage, lemon verbena, and sunny garden herbs. Loved by both men and women for it’s tart, zippy cheer!

Once Upon A Dream Silken Reverie Lotion – Over a full year in development these amazingly luxurious lotions will win you and your skin over. Made fresh from scratch these are creamy, rich, and nourishing- never greasy leaving your skin comfortable and silky soft. You have never experienced lotion like this!

Aegis of the Owl, Bombadil, Dark and Stormy, Midnight Margarita, Practical Magic, Renaissance Faire and Verbena.

One Upon A Dream Limited Edition Scrub – Banish dry, scaly, skin with some shower time enchantment!

Aegis of the Owl, Bombadil, Dark and Stormy, Mint Mysticism, Midnight Margarita, Practical Magic, Renaissance Faire and Verbena.

Arcana Stars + Flowers Reviews

Hotties!  Here they are, reviews of the Stars + Flowers collection.

Arcana Stars + Flowers
Arcana Stars + Flowers

Adhara: The maidens. Vanilla cream, tangerine, clementine, Nagami peel, black coconut, and a touch of sweet violet.

In bottle: Bright citrus!

Wet on skin: The vanilla cream blended with the tangerine and clementine are so pretty together.  The sweet violet is soft and cheeky in the background.

Dry on skin: The vanilla is definitely foody and creamy and with the citrus notes it’s quite creamsickle-y but the dark coconut and violet are the perfect balance to the bright gourmands.

Verdict: Bright, effervescent and bubbly.  If you love citrus and vanilla, you’ll love this!

Bellatrix: The lady warrior. Sweet, jammy fir absolute with 3 honeys, honeysuckle, tiny strawberries, and blood orange.

In bottle: Fresh honeysuckle.

Wet on skin: Fresh pine needles and honeysuckle…it’s kind of a genius combination.

Dry on skin:  The honeysuckle really warms up and as the fir mellows.  The strawberries are fresh and very precious with a generous drizzle of honey.

Verdict:  The honey is pretty soft in this blend and it’s all honeysuckle on me.
Betelgeuse: Orion’s hand. Atlas cedarwood and blood cedar with smoldering oudh, osmanthus, brown musk, bacon, and vetiver.

In bottle: Smoke and all smoke!

Wet on skin: This a a serious oil.  Heavy, smokey and musky.

Dry on skin: I can’t really distinguish the notes in this, but it’s all incense, smoke, wood and musk with a healthy dose of vetiver.

Verdict: Don’t worry, you won’t smell like bacon!  But if you’re into the heavy, smokey and incense blends then you most certainly need this.

Electra: The lost Pleiad. Pink carnation petal ice cream, Mexican bakery vanilla, eggnog, sweet cinnamon, and nutmeg.

In bottle: Frothy pink.

Wet on skin: Mmm, carnation and eggnog are swirled together, tasty and creamy   Plop a scoop of cinnamon ice cream on top and it’s spicy, sweet and lush.

Dry on skin: The spiciness of the carnation really ramps up and it’s a great balance with the sweet notes.

Verdict: This is so pretty.  Carnation is one of my favorite flowers and if you’re a carnation lover then you should pick this up.

Miaplacidus: Gentle waters. Sea air, spring water, cucumber, juniper, hyacinth, lavender, China musk, and 1 drop of hyssop.

In bottle: Fresh aquatic.

Wet on skin: The juniper is right up front, with a splash of very soft cucumber water.  The hyacinth and hyssop petals are gently swirling around with a fresh spritz of spring air.

Dry on skin: Bright hyacinth and salty sea are lovely with light cucumber and exotic musk.   Lavender and juniper are perfect to balance this out.

Verdict: A fresh, aquatic blend with an sophisticated twist of heady florals.

Mira: The amazing. Tiare blossoms dipped in milk chocolate with coconut, sugared rum, French cocoa absolute, marshmallows, and white chocolate.

In bottle: Sugary chocolate accord – dark in color.

Wet on skin: Rich milk chocolate and coconut drizzled in rum marshmallows.

Dry on skin: The white chocolate and marshmallows are rich and luscious.  The tiare blooms and scent swirls around with the sugared rum and cocoas.

Verdict: A rich gourmand dream with an unexpected white floral that is perfection.

Sirius: The brilliant. Bright white grapefruit, golden amber, linden flowers, tart red currant, cassis, and pomegranate.

In bottle: Bright citrus.

Wet on skin: Oh man, this is ALL bright citrus – right up in your face, bracing and proud.

Dry on skin:  The citrus and cassis are stuck in a swirly embrace of juicy, bright cloudiness, with a flash of linden flower and a healthy dose of pomegranate.

Verdict: A lively and energetic blend, this would be perfect for those hot summer days.
