Conjure Oils Hallows Reviews

Hotties!  I’m so excited to bring you these reviews.   As always, Conjure Oils has created some amazingly inspiring scents, just for you! Masterfully created with high quality ingredients, you are always guaranteed to find a scent that you will fall in love with.   These are now available  at The Rhinestone Housewife while supplies last.

wp_20161124_16_53_08_pro

Ayao – A whirling cyclone of crisp fall leaves fills the air coupled with slithering wisps of wood smoke, tonka bean and black plum.

In bottle: Wood smoke and something slightly earthy….maybe the swirling leaves?

Wet on skin:  It’s all wood smoke and tonka bean at first. The smoke continues to amp up but then settles nicely into the tonka and just a bit of rich plum.

Dry on skin: The smoke softly wafts into the background and the crisp leaves swirl right up front and they are a great compliment to the plum…..rich and deep.  The tonka bean is the perfect note to finish it off.

Verdict: Deep and rich, without being heavy.  It’s dries down into a totally wearable scent.  Something tells me this will get even better with age. Medium throw and silage.

Caer Ibormeith – The joy and pain of true love and inevitable death: yew berry accord infused black patchouli, swan feather soft vanilla musk, red amber and stout clove.

In bottle: Soft pearly musk.

Wet on skin: The soft musk and clove are the first up and they are gorgeous!  The clove is not strong at this point but does ramp up a bit as of the red amber peeks out.

Dry on skin: The yew berry and red amber are having a party and I’m so glad I was invited! The patchouli is handled with a deft hand and the clove is soft and creamy.

Verdict: I’m quite possibly dead, this is so gorgeous. It really quite lovely, yet extremely unique….I don’t think I’ve smelled something like this before. I’ll definitely be keeping a bottle of this. This could be unisex.  Good throw and silage.

Charon – An ancient memory of Tunisian opium, precious oudh, aged tobacco and chthonic rhus khus.

In bottle: Tobacco and oudh.

Wet on skin: This blend opens with something woody…..maybe the chthonic rhus khus (vetiver)?  The opium and tobacco and right behind.

Dry on skin: The tobacco is really amazingly soft and lush and it’s so, so good with the opium.  The vetiver is used with a very subtle hand here and it really grounds this blend perfectly.

Verdict: Wow, another stunner.  This one is for those of you that want a unique scent that is warm and rich and sexy.  Unisex. Medium throw and silage.

Hekate’s Torch – Often depicted with two torches that allow her safe passage between the worlds, allow Hekate’s Torch to guide you along your path. A light in the darkness: earthen patchouli, apotropaic clove, spiritually uplifting frankincense, Persephone’s pomegranate and illuminated bergamot.

In bottle: Refreshing!

Wet on skin: The bergamot is bring and refreshing with the pomegranate adding a bit of fruitiness as it settles in.

Dry on skin: The pomegranate is really coming to the front and it’s so pretty.  The clove is very soft and hanging around in the background while the frankincense and earthy clove nestle together. Good throw and silage.

Verdict: Typically I don’t love bergamot but this oil seems to have the perfect balance of green, fruity and earthy.  This is so well blended and I LOVE the pomegranate, I’m also betting this will age really, really well!

King of Terrors – The musty shadows of the cemetery, haunted loam and moss, metal sting and arterial spray.

In bottle: Loamy ground.

Wet on skin: I can definitely pick up the musty darkness of loam and moss….this is deep and mysterious at this point. The metallic note has appeared and it’s a very interesting counterpoint to the brooding earthiness.

Dry on skin: As this dries and softens the damp earthiness settles in and mellows into a nice soft earthy musk.

Verdict: A very surprisingly wearable scent that stays close with mid level silage.   Unisex.

La Madama – Offerings of warm vanilla infused bourbon, juicy mangoes, star jasmine blossoms, cigar smoke and a pinch of blessed salt.

In bottle: Bourbon and soft tobacco.

Wet on skin: The star jasmine is right up front but it’s a bit of a foodie version with the mangoes and vanilla…quite lovely! The mangoes become more prominent just as the salt rolls in and gives it just a tiny touch of an aquatic feel.

Dry on skin: The warm rich vanilla bourbon and grounding the fruitiness of the mango and star jasmine. The softly wafting cigar smoke is the perfect compliment for this blend

Verdict: Gorgeous!  It’s so pretty, warm….like an embrace from a good friend – perfect for those that want a close scent. Unisex. Medium silage and throw.

Les Mortes – Still waters, crystal musk, beeswax candles, water lilies, white amber and sweet offerings of coffee and beignets.

In bottle: Water lilies and beeswax!

Wet on skin: This is very aquatic at first with a nice current of crystal musk and beeswax candles swirling around. This stays as a very pretty aquatic scent before it dries down.

Dry on skin: The white amber and crystal musk is absolutely stunning and it’s such a good choice with the water lilies.  As it continues to dry down the sweetness of the beignets appears but do not make this blend foodie.

Verdict: This scent is very interesting, aquatic but with some sweetness and richness that you don’t normally get.  It’s absolutely gorgeous and even though it’s got foodie elements, it’s not foodie in any way. Good silage and throw.

Libitina – A wistful and somber meditation on eternity: smoked amber, dragon’s blood, aged black patchouli, rose hips, cypress, white myrrh and black storax.

In bottle: Patchouli and dragon’s blood.

Wet on skin: Black patchouli, cypress and black storax are right up front….knocking on the door. The smoky amber and myrrh are right behind.

Dry on skin: This is very woodsy, dark and heavy. The patchouli is dark and mysterious but doesn’t take over the blend and the dragon’s blood is handled very gently.

Verdict: If you like dark and resinous blends, with woodsy and brooding notes….this will be right up your alley.  It’s got serious throw and silage.  Unisex.

Simbi – African green musk and violets, falling water, the spark of ozone and lightning struck sandalwood.

In bottle: Soft violets.

Wet on skin: Delicious falling water and violets hit you first….and it’s mesmerizing.  The green musk is just the right support for the violets.

Dry on skin: As this has dried down you get a just a tiny whiff of slightly charred sandalwood.  This grounds the whole blend into a very pretty but not cloying floral.

Verdict: A gorgeous floral but this a floral that anyone can enjoy.  It’s pretty and ladylike without being precious or cloying.  Medium silage and throw.

Thanatos & Lethe – Black opium, poppy flower, kush, vanilla flower, cannabis accord, blue lotus attar, aged patchouli and mimosa.

In bottle: Kushy!

Wet on skin: It opens up green and herby and I think that’s the cannabis accord.  It’s closely followed by the vanilla flower and opium. As it settles down, poppy flower and mimosa peek out.

Dry on skin: The blue lotus attar is has appeared as it dries down and it’s really pretty with the aged patchouli.

Verdict: This is a nicely unique blend of resins and florals – gorgeous, dark and rich.   Good throw and sillage.

Valkyrie – Honey mead from the halls of Valhalla, the smoke of oak and juniper fires from the battlefield and the magnificent golden musk of eternal glory.

In bottle: Honey and musk!

Wet on skin: At first sniff this is warm and rich with the honey mead and musk the most prominent. The juniper fire is just showing up, licking at the edges.

Dry on skin: The juniper is giving it a bit of a refreshing vibe and it’s so very pretty with the sweetness of the honey mead and richness of the golden musk.  I’m not sure of eternal glory smells like, but I suspect it’s like this!

Verdict: I’m literally dead and waiting for a Valkyrie to take me off to somewhere that smells like this because it is indeed glorious! It’s got foodie elements but isn’t foodie at all and it very refreshing.  I love this.  Good silage and throw. Unisex.

Wanyudo – An infernal and damned philtre of ginger root, red patchouli, tonka bean, cinnamon sticks and burnt marshmallow.

In bottle: Dry red patchouli.

Wet on skin: The red patchouli is here and it’s gorgeous!  It quickly partners with the ginger root and cinnamon sticks.  The cinnamon isn’t craft store-ish at all, but is dry and almost wispy.  The patchouli is receding as it dries down.

Dry on skin: This has settled into a gorgeous ginger scent, with the tonka bean lending a nice balance with the burnt marshmallow.  The red patchouli is just softly in the background and it’s a good base for this blend.

Verdict: I really love this.   It’s definitely a cinnamon and ginger heavy blend but it’s creamy and lush, not craft store smelling at all. Great throw and silage.  Unisex.

Washers At The Ford – A Victorian mourning fougere: bog moss, heather, pitcher plant, water poppy and emerald ferns under a slate gray sky that threatens torrential rain.

In bottle: Bright greens.

Wet on skin: The heather is mingled in with the emerald ferns and this really does smell like you are out in a garden, sitting among the greens and wild heather.  You can almost feel the storm on the horizon as you pick up a bit on ozone.

Dry on skin: The bog moss gives this blend the feel of air heavy with moisture during a storm.  The greens and heather smell like they’ve got a fresh, dewy layer of rain.

Verdict: Amazing!  This is very atmospheric and yet still wearable.  A great scent for those that enjoy aquatics, fresh greens and realistic, atmospheric scents yet still want something that’s totally wearable.  Medium silage and throw.

STOD Review Conjure Oils – El Diabolito

While I post a lot of SOTD’s (scent of the day) on The Rhinestone Housewife FB page, I haven’t posted them a lot here so  I thought I’d give it a shot!  Today, I am wearing El Diabolito by Conjure Oils.

El Diabolito by Conjure Oils
El Diabolito by Conjure Oils

El Diabolito: flick the angel off of your shoulder and indulge the devilish side. Smoke, chocolate and warm spices conspire to make debauchery a divine pastime.

In bottle: Bittersweet chocolate powder.

Wet on skin: At first it’s all hot and spicy with just a hint of some earthy chocolate swirling in the background.

Dry on skin: The sweetness really starts to emerge in the dry down with the smokiness as the perfect balance. The spicyness is absolutely perfection here…..rich and deep.

Verdict:  I smell like a sexy mocha. It’s easy for perfume oils to veer into craft store territory with any sort of cinnamon or spice note but El Diabolito manages to avoid that completely.  This is spicy, warm and rich.  Perfect for those who love chocolate but don’t necessarily want to smell like cake.

Aegis of the Owl: In honor of both the bold and wise Athena a blend that calls to her and her patrons. Athena, also referred to as Athene,is the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. She is known most specifically for her strategic skill in warfare and is often portrayed as companion of heroes and is the patron goddess of heroic endeavor. Imbued with all the goddesses favorite things fruits, flowers, and sacred trees Aegis of the Owl is a sylvan unisex blend with notes of grapefruit, citruses, geranium, spruce and cypress on a soft suede bed. Bombadil: “Come along, tell me now, who’s this jolly fellow?

Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!”

A MOST delicious lemon butter cake that has a great balance of sweet and tart, only to be complimented with an incredibly jammy blueberry jam and the tiniest touch of spice. Unlike a lot of gourmand scents Bombadil is cheery, light, delightful—and dare I say addictive.

Mint Mysticism: The ultimate cooler! A blend of fresh mints, basil and an earthy twist.  It’s creamy, minty herbal fresh, a new religion; Mint Mysticism!

Renaissance Faire: The Renaissance Faire scent is an amalgamation of my favorite scent memories of the faire. Heady- but bright jasmine and roses from the herbalists hut behind the big cauldron, softly smoky sweet incense swirling everywhere, and that super refreshing black mint tea, that no matter how you try you just can’t seem to make the same way at home. Everything good about the faire without being the typical food scent.

Verbena: Sally is really putting that herbal magic to work here. This soap is bright and fresh as her small shop! Sweet citruses blended with white sage, lemon verbena, and sunny garden herbs. Loved by both men and women for it’s tart, zippy cheer!

Arcana Hallowe’en Reviews – Sunken Lyonesse, Terrors, Ravenous II

Oh, I know you guys have been waiting for this!   The Arcana Hallowe’en collection is always highly anticipated so without further ado, here it is!

P1160347

Isolde:  White chocolate, pale almond milk, delicate vanilla, cream, and a touch of sheer musk.

In bottle:  Delicate cream.

Wet on skin:  The almond milk is the first note to appear with vanilla very lightly following behind.

Dry on skin:  The creams really come to life here and the white chocolate lends a nice hands in blending the soft vanilla and musk.

Verdict:  This is a soft, feminine and comforting scent.

Tristan:  Sandalwood, caramel, animalic musk, sweet tree roots, and a hint of Cornish violets.

In bottle: Sandalwood and musk.

Wet on skin:  Mmmmm, sexy musk and woods are right up front and knocking at the door.

Dry on skin:  The caramel is rich a sexy and super gorgeous with the woods and very faintest hint of violet.  The musk keeps this from being too sweet or cloying.

Verdict:  Gorgeous, rich and sexy.  Even with the violets, this would be equally amazing on a boy or girl.

Unearthly Lovely:  Dusty honey, bee pollen, and vanilla bean.

In bottle:  Soft vanilla.

Wet on skin:  Very light and ethereal honey at first with the vanilla bean just peeking in the door.

Dry on skin:  This is all honey, but not dirty honey…it’s soft and slightly dusty with a nice, rich vanilla chaser.

Verdict:  This would be great for people who typically can’t wear a more swarthy honey. It’s very soft and pretty and would be completely office or work appropriate.

Marble Flowers:  Opulent tuberose petals, neroli, sheer bergamot, white amber, pearl musk, and white cognac absolute.

In bottle:  Bergamot and neroli.

Wet on skin:  Bergamot and tuberose are the stars here at first…it’s bright and bracing and fresh.

Dry on skin:  As this dries down the white amber and pearl musk soften up the bergamot and floral.   The white cognac absolute is the perfect, grounding note here….it’s just the right compliment for the brighter notes.

Verdict:  A beautiful, rich floral and should appeal to those that might not typically enjoy florals.   I believe this will age beautifully.

Nereids:  Shimmering water, sweet apples, Tiare, rain, pink jasmine, green musk, and wildflowers.

In bottle:  Aquatic apples.

Wet on skin:  The apples and tiara are both floating around in the sparkly water….like if you went to a party and they were bobbing for apples and someone had the brilliant idea of adding flowers to the water.

Dry on skin:  The rain and green musk descend on this blend and saturate the apples and florals.  The jasmine is just pink and sweet enough and the wildflowers are a nice addition.

Verdict:  The lovely, fresh and alluring aquatic floral.   I want to wear this while dancing in an impromptu rainstorm.

The Sullen Courts of Sleep:  A tenebrous blend of amber resin, coconut milk, skin musk, and French cognac.

In bottle:  Soft coconut.

Wet on skin:  Ugh, the French cognac is gorgeous and creamy….lush.   The coconut milk and skin musk are succulent and rich.

Dry on skin:  As this dies down the amber resin is the perfect compliment to the lush and creamy coconut and cognac.  It’s warm, rich and very, very heavenly and not in a foodie way.

Verdict:  This is the surprise hit of the collection for me.   It’s so lovely and everyone should buy it!

Sabbath Eve:  Crisp, dead leaves, evening woodsmoke, dark amber, and smoking church incense.

In bottle:  Dead leaves and incense.

Wet on skin:  Smokey goodness and incense.  The dark amber just starts to appear on the front edge of this drying down.

Dry on skin:  The incense really amps up as this dries down with the woodsmoke swirling around.  The amber and leaves add a nice earthy vibe.

Verdict:  Do you love resinous, smokey and churchy blends?   Then this one is for you!   This would be equally magnificent on a boy or a girl.

The Kraken:  There’s a Kraken in the Celtic Sea? Of course! There’s a Kraken in every sea. Gorgeous smoked vanilla, black vanilla, saltwater, China musk, and black musk.

In bottle:  Saltwater and musks.

Wet on skin:  The smoked vanilla is first to this party on the high seas with the black vanilla close behind.   The saltwater is just whirlpooling around behind the other notes….waiting to suck you down into the briny depths.

Dry on skin:  The black vanillas and the musks are the real stars here and the saltwater the is perfect complimentary note for this blend.

Verdict:  RELEASE THE KRAKEN!  (you knew that was coming, right?)   This is the aquatic for those that typically can’t wear aquatics.

And…

The Terrors

Apples Crave Terror:  Holy Terror (burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles), ice-cold apples, and an extra shot of smoky frankincense.

In bottle: Earthy apples.

Wet on skin:  Smoky, chilly apples are here and they are proud!

Dry on skin:  As it’s dried down, the Terror slinks out of the shadows and becomes the star with the crisp apples a bright supporting player.

Verdict:  Do you like apples?  Do you like Holy Terror?   Then you’ll love this!

Peaches Crave Terror:  Yellow and white peaches with Holy Terror (burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles).

In bottle:  Peachy resins.

Wet on skin:  There is a lovely peach medley happening here at first.    The Terror is still lurking about in the background waiting to descend and devour the juicy goodness.

Dry  on skin:  The resins and beeswax have really taken the stage and they are rich and dark and so very nice with the white and yellow peaches.

Verdict:  Do you love peaches and Holy Terror?  Don’t wait, this will go fast!

Pumpkins Crave Terror:  Holy Terror (burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles) with glowing pumpkin and a small dash of pie spices.

In bottle:  Rich dark pumpkin spices.

Wet on skin:  Oooh, the pumpkin pie spices are lovely and rich and not at all craft storish and the Terror…..oh the Terror!

Dry on skin:  The pumpkin pie spices are sooooo good with Holy Terror.  It’s like a terrifying match made in Hallowe’en Town.

Verdict:  Well, you need this.

Strawberries Crave Terror:  Deep red strawberries and Holy Terror (burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles).

In bottle:  Dark strawberries.

Wet on skin:  The strawberries and smokey and dark and really nice.

Dry on skin: As this dries down it’s a dark strawberry and the Terror is deep and juicy and utterly lush.

Verdict:  Do you like strawberries and Terror?  Try a Terrifyingly gorgeous strawberry!

And…

Ravenous II

Apples Crave Apples:  A special request from the ladies of Reddit IMAM! Notes of golden apple, green apple, Winesap, Fuji, fresh apple, baked apple, spiced apple, apple cider, and a hint of apple.

Verdict:  Apples, apples and more apples with a dash of apple cider.   An apple extravaganza if you will.

Apples Crave Cake (exclusive to The Rhinestone Housewife):  Fresh, crisp red apples blended with our Yellow Cake layering note.

Verdict:  Apples and the most perfect Yellow Cake layering note.   I want to eat my arm every time I wear this.

Apples Crave Red Musk:  Candy-red apples and lascivious red musk.

In bottle:  Crispy, fresh apples.

Wet on skin: This is all red apple right up front and it’s fresh a delicious!   The red musk is slinky and and really alluring.

Dry on skin:  Oh man….this is getting good!   It’s the most bright real, fresh apple scent that I have ever come across.   The red musk is the best party crasher ever.  She’s vibrant, salacious and so tasty.

Verdict: Well, I knew I was going to love this because this was one of my suggestions to Julia for Apples Crave.   I bought a ton of this so that no one has to go without it in their lives!

Apples Crave The Tropics:  Lots of green apple and sweet coconut flesh with sexy tuberose, Tahitian Tiare petals, and a drop of lime.

In bottle:  Soft green apple and lime.

Wet on skin:  The lime is soft and almost sugared smelling and it’s really petty with the green apple.  The Tahitian petals are soft and the perfect compliment to the greens of the lime and apple.

Dry on skin:   The Tahitian Tiare and tuberose are here and they are amazing!  The Tiare petals and sugared lime are the perfect duo and they are playing VERY nicely with the green apple and soft coconut.

Verdict:   A sweet, sexy and very wearable scent.  It’s sophisticated and very work appropriate.

Arcana Updates And A Sale At The Rhinestone Housewife!

Hey kids!   Well, cooler weather is finally here and it’s time for boots and sweaters.  I love this time of year because it’s almost pumpkin carving time!  It’s also the time of year that The Rhinestone Housewife gets exciting new autumn collections in.  The Arcana Hallowe’en collection is always hotly anticipated and this year is no different.  We don’t know yet what Julia has in store for us but we know it’ll be amazing.

We have re-stocked all of our Arcana Classic scents and added some new ones to the site.    Here are the new Arcana perfume oils that are now available:

Alhambra – Recline in the shadow of the Alhambra with this Moorish blend of pomegranate juice, fresh Spanish rosemary, aged patchouli and golden beeswax. The Court of the Lions beckons.

Death In the Afternoon – The scent of decadence and delightful risks. We drew on an old recipe for an infamous cocktail to create this pastiche of absinthe, champagne, sugar, blood orange, tangerine, aniseed and lemongrass.

Red Giant – A radiant, stellar blend of brightest sweet orange, toasted pumpkin, warm cinnamon, lemongrass, yuzu, pink grapefruit, white grapefruit, and sparkling bergamot.

Leaves Falling Like Rain – In honor of our beloved Pacific Northwest and the best time of the year. A comforting base of brown sugar, caramel, gingersnaps and cappuccino is sparked off with hints of vintage patchouli, hyssop, mullein and white pepper.

We also have a sale going right now.   Coupon code PRINCESSMINNIE will get you 15% off $25 or more.   Our beloved Boxer girl, Minnie was diagnosed with Lymphoma and we are hosting a sale for her chemo treatments.    Please enjoy this coupon until 9/10/15.

Also, we will be debuting a special fundraising perfume for Minnie from Arcana so stay tuned for a special announcement!

Change To Future Arcana New Collection Releases

Hello! How is everyone doing this morning? It’s beautiful here in the lovely Pacific Northwest and I hope to get out and enjoy it later today. I wanted to take a moment and give you an update on future Arcana restocks. I have gotten some feedback that people were disappointed in the speedy sell out of this latest Arcana release and you know what? I totally and completely 100% agree with you.

Dash-one of the reasons I need Carpet Afterlife in my world!
Dash!

The reception of this release took me (and Julia) completely by surprise. When I first opened The Rhinestone Housewife, I used to buy 3-5 bottles of each scent and those would hang around forever. lol  Needless to say that is no longer the case and I’m the first to admit that I was unprepared to deal with that sort of demand. I made the largest stock order I’d ever made in the history of The Rhinestone Housewife and assumed that would be plenty. Twenty to thirty bottles of each scent? No problem, I thought! Well you guys took that stock and ran away with it. I’m honored and delighted to see Arcana doing so well but it also created some irritation from customers that had difficulty getting what they wanted. And I wanted to say, that I hear you. We’ll be making some changes with the soon to be released summer collection.

The first change that we’re going to make it limiting the decant circle order. I hate to do this, and fully support what Angi does 100%. The way I look at it is the decant circles are there so that people can test out the scents before buying a whole bottle. Well what happened is that once the initial orders were in, there were no bottles left to buy. It sort of defeats the purpose, right? So moving forward the decant circle orders will be limited to 10 bottles of each scent with no add on bottles allowed. I know this is going to be disappointing to some of you but it’s the logical choice moving forward.

The second change we’re going to make is doubling (again) the amount of each scent that we order to stock The Rhinestone Housewife. I’m *hoping* this will be enough to to satisfy the growing demand for the lovely oils that Julia at Arcana bestows upon us. If demand for these collections continue to grow, I am happy to grow our orders with that demand.   I’ve learned a lot this past year and I hope you stick with us for the long haul because every day I learn something new and valuable.

This last six months The Rhinestone Housewife has seen exponential growth and admittedly we’ve had some growing pains. What do you guys think? I always welcome feedback and practice an ‘open door’ policy when it comes to suggestions and customer service.   I also wanted to take a moment and thank every each and one of you for allowing me to do what I love to do.  Without out all of you we wouldn’t be her.  So, thank you.
