Ayao – A whirling cyclone of crisp fall leaves fills the air coupled with slithering wisps of wood smoke, tonka bean and black plum.

In bottle: Wood smoke and something slightly earthy….maybe the swirling leaves?

Wet on skin:  It’s all wood smoke and tonka bean at first. The smoke continues to amp up but then settles nicely into the tonka and just a bit of rich plum.

Dry on skin: The smoke softly wafts into the background and the crisp leaves swirl right up front and they are a great compliment to the plum…..rich and deep.  The tonka bean is the perfect note to finish it off.

Verdict: Deep and rich, without being heavy.  It’s dries down into a totally wearable scent.  Something tells me this will get even better with age. Medium throw and silage.

Caer Ibormeith – The joy and pain of true love and inevitable death: yew berry accord infused black patchouli, swan feather soft vanilla musk, red amber and stout clove.

In bottle: Soft pearly musk.

Wet on skin: The soft musk and clove are the first up and they are gorgeous!  The clove is not strong at this point but does ramp up a bit as of the red amber peeks out.

Dry on skin: The yew berry and red amber are having a party and I’m so glad I was invited! The patchouli is handled with a deft hand and the clove is soft and creamy.

Verdict: I’m quite possibly dead, this is so gorgeous. It really quite lovely, yet extremely unique….I don’t think I’ve smelled something like this before. I’ll definitely be keeping a bottle of this. This could be unisex.  Good throw and silage.

Charon – An ancient memory of Tunisian opium, precious oudh, aged tobacco and chthonic rhus khus.

In bottle: Tobacco and oudh.

Wet on skin: This blend opens with something woody…..maybe the chthonic rhus khus (vetiver)?  The opium and tobacco and right behind.

Dry on skin: The tobacco is really amazingly soft and lush and it’s so, so good with the opium.  The vetiver is used with a very subtle hand here and it really grounds this blend perfectly.

Verdict: Wow, another stunner.  This one is for those of you that want a unique scent that is warm and rich and sexy.  Unisex. Medium throw and silage.

Hekate’s Torch – Often depicted with two torches that allow her safe passage between the worlds, allow Hekate’s Torch to guide you along your path. A light in the darkness: earthen patchouli, apotropaic clove, spiritually uplifting frankincense, Persephone’s pomegranate and illuminated bergamot.

In bottle: Refreshing!

Wet on skin: The bergamot is bring and refreshing with the pomegranate adding a bit of fruitiness as it settles in.

Dry on skin: The pomegranate is really coming to the front and it’s so pretty.  The clove is very soft and hanging around in the background while the frankincense and earthy clove nestle together. Good throw and silage.

Verdict: Typically I don’t love bergamot but this oil seems to have the perfect balance of green, fruity and earthy.  This is so well blended and I LOVE the pomegranate, I’m also betting this will age really, really well!

King of Terrors – The musty shadows of the cemetery, haunted loam and moss, metal sting and arterial spray.

In bottle: Loamy ground.

Wet on skin: I can definitely pick up the musty darkness of loam and moss….this is deep and mysterious at this point. The metallic note has appeared and it’s a very interesting counterpoint to the brooding earthiness.

Dry on skin: As this dries and softens the damp earthiness settles in and mellows into a nice soft earthy musk.

Verdict: A very surprisingly wearable scent that stays close with mid level silage.   Unisex.

La Madama – Offerings of warm vanilla infused bourbon, juicy mangoes, star jasmine blossoms, cigar smoke and a pinch of blessed salt.

In bottle: Bourbon and soft tobacco.

Wet on skin: The star jasmine is right up front but it’s a bit of a foodie version with the mangoes and vanilla…quite lovely! The mangoes become more prominent just as the salt rolls in and gives it just a tiny touch of an aquatic feel.

Dry on skin: The warm rich vanilla bourbon and grounding the fruitiness of the mango and star jasmine. The softly wafting cigar smoke is the perfect compliment for this blend

Verdict: Gorgeous!  It’s so pretty, warm….like an embrace from a good friend – perfect for those that want a close scent. Unisex. Medium silage and throw.

Les Mortes – Still waters, crystal musk, beeswax candles, water lilies, white amber and sweet offerings of coffee and beignets.

In bottle: Water lilies and beeswax!

Wet on skin: This is very aquatic at first with a nice current of crystal musk and beeswax candles swirling around. This stays as a very pretty aquatic scent before it dries down.

Dry on skin: The white amber and crystal musk is absolutely stunning and it’s such a good choice with the water lilies.  As it continues to dry down the sweetness of the beignets appears but do not make this blend foodie.

Verdict: This scent is very interesting, aquatic but with some sweetness and richness that you don’t normally get.  It’s absolutely gorgeous and even though it’s got foodie elements, it’s not foodie in any way. Good silage and throw.

Libitina – A wistful and somber meditation on eternity: smoked amber, dragon’s blood, aged black patchouli, rose hips, cypress, white myrrh and black storax.

In bottle: Patchouli and dragon’s blood.

Wet on skin: Black patchouli, cypress and black storax are right up front….knocking on the door. The smoky amber and myrrh are right behind.

Dry on skin: This is very woodsy, dark and heavy. The patchouli is dark and mysterious but doesn’t take over the blend and the dragon’s blood is handled very gently.

Verdict: If you like dark and resinous blends, with woodsy and brooding notes….this will be right up your alley.  It’s got serious throw and silage.  Unisex.

Simbi – African green musk and violets, falling water, the spark of ozone and lightning struck sandalwood.

In bottle: Soft violets.

Wet on skin: Delicious falling water and violets hit you first….and it’s mesmerizing.  The green musk is just the right support for the violets.

Dry on skin: As this has dried down you get a just a tiny whiff of slightly charred sandalwood.  This grounds the whole blend into a very pretty but not cloying floral.

Verdict: A gorgeous floral but this a floral that anyone can enjoy.  It’s pretty and ladylike without being precious or cloying.  Medium silage and throw.

Thanatos & Lethe – Black opium, poppy flower, kush, vanilla flower, cannabis accord, blue lotus attar, aged patchouli and mimosa.

In bottle: Kushy!

Wet on skin: It opens up green and herby and I think that’s the cannabis accord.  It’s closely followed by the vanilla flower and opium. As it settles down, poppy flower and mimosa peek out.

Dry on skin: The blue lotus attar is has appeared as it dries down and it’s really pretty with the aged patchouli.

Verdict: This is a nicely unique blend of resins and florals – gorgeous, dark and rich.   Good throw and sillage.

Valkyrie – Honey mead from the halls of Valhalla, the smoke of oak and juniper fires from the battlefield and the magnificent golden musk of eternal glory.

In bottle: Honey and musk!

Wet on skin: At first sniff this is warm and rich with the honey mead and musk the most prominent. The juniper fire is just showing up, licking at the edges.

Dry on skin: The juniper is giving it a bit of a refreshing vibe and it’s so very pretty with the sweetness of the honey mead and richness of the golden musk.  I’m not sure of eternal glory smells like, but I suspect it’s like this!

Verdict: I’m literally dead and waiting for a Valkyrie to take me off to somewhere that smells like this because it is indeed glorious! It’s got foodie elements but isn’t foodie at all and it very refreshing.  I love this.  Good silage and throw. Unisex.

Wanyudo – An infernal and damned philtre of ginger root, red patchouli, tonka bean, cinnamon sticks and burnt marshmallow.

In bottle: Dry red patchouli.

Wet on skin: The red patchouli is here and it’s gorgeous!  It quickly partners with the ginger root and cinnamon sticks.  The cinnamon isn’t craft store-ish at all, but is dry and almost wispy.  The patchouli is receding as it dries down.

Dry on skin: This has settled into a gorgeous ginger scent, with the tonka bean lending a nice balance with the burnt marshmallow.  The red patchouli is just softly in the background and it’s a good base for this blend.

Verdict: I really love this.   It’s definitely a cinnamon and ginger heavy blend but it’s creamy and lush, not craft store smelling at all. Great throw and silage.  Unisex.

Washers At The Ford – A Victorian mourning fougere: bog moss, heather, pitcher plant, water poppy and emerald ferns under a slate gray sky that threatens torrential rain.

In bottle: Bright greens.

Wet on skin: The heather is mingled in with the emerald ferns and this really does smell like you are out in a garden, sitting among the greens and wild heather.  You can almost feel the storm on the horizon as you pick up a bit on ozone.

Dry on skin: The bog moss gives this blend the feel of air heavy with moisture during a storm.  The greens and heather smell like they’ve got a fresh, dewy layer of rain.

Verdict: Amazing!  This is very atmospheric and yet still wearable.  A great scent for those that enjoy aquatics, fresh greens and realistic, atmospheric scents yet still want something that’s totally wearable.  Medium silage and throw.

AYAO – Ayao is the Yoruban Orisha of the wind. She is the eye of the storm and sister to the mighty Oya, Ayao wields the power of witchcraft and magical knowledge. Her companion is the snake and her weapon is the crossbow. Find her in the forest where the leaves swirl like a cyclone.

The musty shadows of the cemetery, haunted loam and moss, metal sting and arterial spray.

LA MADAMA – If you think about what Aunt Jemima looks like you’ll have a pretty good idea of La Madama’s appearance. Not a singular spirit, per se, but a vast network of spirits who oftentimes are the spirits of deceased Lucumi priestesses from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Everyone who has their own unique Madama can tell you her name and how she lived her life. This information is gleaned via spiritual masses, quiet reflection and other spiritual work. She is a teacher and mentor spirit who favors diviners, spiritual workers, healers, mediums and the like. A powerful partner for magic, cleansings and protection. The belief in the Voudon religion is when someone passes away they really don’t die, but go to a spiritual land of their blood and spiritual ancestors called Ginen and are never really far from their living loved ones. Les Morts are spirits to consult with when you have questions about the afterlife, a fear of death or if you would like to have an elevated conversation, as they tend to wax philosophical. Keep an image of a snake on your electronics and offer Simbi some water and rum from time to time to keep him moist and happy to assist.

WANYUDO – Manifesting as a disembodied head at the hub of a flaming ox-cart wheel, Wanyudo is a yokai that patrols the line between the living and the dead with violent precision. It is said that a raging fever is produced just by getting a glimpse of Wanyudo. Woe be to the person Wanyudo catches peeking at him as he will roll over them with his wheel ablaze, scorching them to nothing but a crisp shadow on the road! He has also been known to cart gawkers straight to Hell.

An infernal and damned philtre of ginger root, red patchouli, tonka bean, cinnamon sticks and burnt marshmallow.

WASHERS AT THE FORD – Hailing from the British Isles, the Washers at the Ford are the spirits of women in varying degrees of haggardness with ghostly pale skin and disheveled hair. They crouch at the ford of the river where they wail and keen as they furiously launder any number of gristly and bloody items in the murky water: from cloth to armor to severed limbs and heads! In mourning, she continues to cry and shriek as she washes and if she happens to lock eyes with you as you innocently stroll by, it is your impending death that she is mourning! The Washers are not bringers of death as one might assume, but ancient harbingers. It is said when people of great status are to die the Washer presented will not be the typical washer woman, but a goddess such as Badbh or the Morrigan and make herself available for many to see so the cold shiver of a death omen will travel long and far.

STOD Review Conjure Oils – El Diabolito

While I post a lot of SOTD’s (scent of the day) on The Rhinestone Housewife FB page, I haven’t posted them a lot here so  I thought I’d give it a shot!  Today, I am wearing El Diabolito by Conjure Oils.

El Diabolito by Conjure Oils
El Diabolito by Conjure Oils

El Diabolito: flick the angel off of your shoulder and indulge the devilish side. Smoke, chocolate and warm spices conspire to make debauchery a divine pastime.

In bottle: Bittersweet chocolate powder.

Wet on skin: At first it’s all hot and spicy with just a hint of some earthy chocolate swirling in the background.

Dry on skin: The sweetness really starts to emerge in the dry down with the smokiness as the perfect balance. The spicyness is absolutely perfection here…..rich and deep.

Verdict:  I smell like a sexy mocha. It’s easy for perfume oils to veer into craft store territory with any sort of cinnamon or spice note but El Diabolito manages to avoid that completely.  This is spicy, warm and rich.  Perfect for those who love chocolate but don’t necessarily want to smell like cake.

Conjure Oils Wu Xing Reviews

I finally got my grubby little hands on samples of the Conjure Oils Wu Xing collection.

**********

Yellow DragonAged vanilla resin, ginger infused red patchouli, seductively sweet Medjool dates and exotic Silk Road spices.

In bottle:  Soft and spicy.

Wet on skin: Right at first I get a blast of ginger red patchouli.   The vanilla resin and silk spices are very quietly lingering in the background.

Dry on skin:  The ginger has disappeared and the vanilla resin has amped and taken it’s place.   The lushness of the dates is a nice counterpoint.

Verdict:   Very nice although most likely not bottle worthy for me.   I’m betting it will age well.

**********

Azure DragonMirabelle plum, coconut husk, lemon honey, cedar wood, aged amber resin, sandalwood musk, crushed moss and tonka bean.

In bottle:  I swear I smell a juicy peach.

Wet on skin:  Hmmm…I get something sharp right off the bat.  Maybe it’s the moss and wood together?

Dry on skin:  This has an almost masculine vibe to it.   I think I’ve amped the woods and amber resin.   The coconut  is softly adding to the blend and softening it.

Verdict:  I can’t make my mind up about this blend.  I think I’m going to put it away and try it again in a month or so.

**********

Vermillion Bird-Apricot nectar, honeysuckle blossoms, vanilla musk, creamy white amber, heliotrope, basmati rice and a drop of sweet clove.

In bottle:  Vaugely floral.

Wet on skin:  Honeysuckle is right up top with the heliotrope and white amber revolving around.

Dry on skin:  This is a very pretty floral.  It’s mostly honeysuckle and heliotrope but I can definitely pick up some of the vanilla musk and clove.  I don’t get much of the basmati rice or apricot.

Verdict:  A gorgeous floral if that’s what you like.

**********

White TigerBlack tea, crushed violet petals, peach sugar, red sandalwood, aged amber resin, cured tobacco, soft suede and threadbare linen.

In bottle: Peachy and floral.

Wet on skin:  At first it’s all peach and tea.   Then the amber resin and suede emerge and add a nice deep grounding note to the blend.

Dry on skin:  Dried down violet and tobacco waft out to add a bit of richness.   I don’t really get much of the red sandalwood but maybe as it ages?

Verdict:   This is a very pretty blend and probably my favorite of the bunch.  It’s soft and feminine without being too girly.

**********

Black TortoisePomegranate fruit, blood musk, black vanilla orchid, dark patchouli, sugared amber, black currant and deep myrrh.

In bottle:  Musky.

Wet on skin:  Pomegranate is up front with the myrrh and musk whirling around.

Dry on skin:  The pomegranate is still at the front of this blend but there’s also a very light dusting of patchouli mixed in.    The myrrh is peeking out in the background.

Verdict:   Very pretty!  It’s most definitely a darker and heavier blend but the addition of the pomegranate fruit keeps it from being too incensy.

Conjure Oils Mlle. Victoria’s Lupertine Burlesque Cabaret Reviews (& day 2!)

Today I received my Conjure Oils order!    Of the bottles that I got De Faya and Eva Martin were new to me so I thought I’d review those for you.

De Faya:  De Faya’s gutsy glamour comes from her ability to proudly display the military look! Strong and tall, she marches this sexy look decades ahead into the future!  A bold, confident blend: White sandalwood musk with glowing golden notes of honeysuckle, bergamot and aged tonka.

In bottle:  It smells green and just a bit herby.

Wet on skin:  At first I get bergamot  and sharp sandalwood.   As it starts to dry down, the golden muskiness starts to come out.

Dry on skin:  As it softens and mellows the white sandalwood peers out and it’s delicious.    The tonka is also making an appearance and blended with the bergamot and honeysuckle it’s delicious goodness.

Verdict:  I love this.  I’m definitely getting a Marie La Veau vibe here.  I’m not sure what combination of notes is causing it but I swear I pick up a little sassafrass.   If you like Marie La Veau then please try this one!

***************************************************************

Eva Martin:  Mlle. Éve Martin is truly an original! Her geometric dress revealing the most suggestive views of the female body. It’s almost scandalous!  Toasted coconut, caramelized vanilla bean, peach, and heady magnolia ignited with red musk.

In bottle:  Peach and caramelized vanilla.

Wet on skin:  Fresh on the skin I’m picking up on the coconut and peach.  As it settles in you can pick up the toasted part of the coconut and just a touch of red musk.

Dry on skin:   This is spicy, coconutty peachy goodness with just a hint of something floral floating around in the background.

Verdict: It’s lovely and I’m glad I got a bottle.

Conjure Oils Le Sacre Du Printemps and Mlle. Victoria’s Lupertine Burlesque Cabaret (& day 41!)

Conjure Oils just announced that Le Sacre Du Printemps  and Mlle. Victoria’s Lupertine Burlesque Cabaret are both back for spring!    When the Sacre collection came out last year, I had a huge backup of oils to review so by the time I got to these, they had gone away.  I managed to score bottles of Adoration de la Terre and Jeux Du Cites Rivales.   I also LOVED the Luper Burlesque collection so I was happy to be able to pick up a couple more of those.  I thought I would post up reviews from the previous release in can you’re interested in any of them.

http://www.conjureoils.com/main.htm

Le Sacre Du Printemps

Jeux des Cites Rivales-The Games of the Two Rival Tribes.  Spirited and spiced candied violets, bitter cloves, cassis and red sandalwood spar with black currant, ylang ylang, vanilla orchid, gunpowder and dried wild grasses.

In vial:   Sweet and pretty, the oil itself is very light in color.

Wet on skin: Whoa this is sexy and pretty.  I don’t know that I can pick out any of the notes but it’s really interesting and I can’t help but huff my arm.

Dry on skin:  Well, this is a definite surprise winner for me.   I’ve never found anything with ylang ylang that I like.

Verdict:  This is gorgeous and sophisticated and I’m glad I’ll still get a chance to purchase a bottle of this.

***********************************

Adoration de la Terre-The Kiss of the Earth. Earthbound and beautiful; the blue dot in a sea of black that we call home.

Warm and golden as a summer’s sunset: peach blossom honey, chthonic amber resin, toasted basmati rice, cured tobacco, sweet tea and blonde patchouli.

In vial:  It smells like peach liquor without the liquor smell.   Not as cloying as peach can be but super peachy at the same time.

Wet on skin:  It smells like peach candy.   I get just a touch of resin and toasted rice.

Dry on skin:  This is actually really pretty.  I’m generally not fond of fruity or peachy scents on me, but this is pretty sophisticated.   The resin and tobacco add a nice, softly dark touch to this blend.

Verdict:   This has morphed into a beautiful, woody and earthy scent with just a slight, sexy hint of peach.  I might have to purchase a bottle of this after all!

*********************************************

Glorification de l’Elue-Naming and Glorifying the Chosen One who is the Golden Child, the May Queen, the Sacred Divine within; the Holy Fire of Spirit that links us with All-That-Is.

Glory be: golden saffron, antique patchouli, white honey, orris root, toasted almond, khus and splendid olibanum.

In vial:  Almondy and piney, the oil itself is an orangish color.
Wet on skin:  Pine!
Dry on skin:  Everything has settled down and I can really start to smell the khus and patchouli now….it really smells like a grass beach mat.   Interesting!
Verdict:  It’s a fun scent and I think my decant will be plenty.   It will be interesting to see how this ages.

******************************************

Dansae Sacrale-Sacrificial Dance of the Chosen One.  Sacred and uplifting: crystal amber, blue lavender, cyclamen, white sage, honeydew, vanilla musk, candied violets and a gentle heart of white rose tea.

In vial:   green and floral.

Wet on skin:  It’s very soft and I’m having a hard time distinguishing the individual notes.

Dry on skin:  This just kind of…..disappeared.  I can’t really smell much of anything.

Verdict:  Not sure what happened with my chemistry but this disappeared in almost ten minutes.  My guess it that it will be good for someone who likes florals and tea.

***************************************

Evocation des Ancestre-Evoking the Spirits of the Ancestors. We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors through love, adoration and veneration our predecessors are lifted, elevated, given light and eternal life.

Revere and honor: dried pomegranate rind crushed and perfumed with linden blossom, red spikenard, aloes wood, Egyptian sandalwood, sweet myrrh and Kyphi incense.

In vial:  Ok, maybe I’m crazy bot this smelled just a *bit* like toothpaste!

Wet on skin:   Ugh, so far not good.  It’s super strong and powdery in a gas station incense sort of way.

Dry on skin:  Well, this is just too heavy and incensy for me.   It’s still going super strong, too.   It’s almost given me a headache.

Verdict:   Not for me.

********************************************

Action Rituelle des Ancestres-Honor those that have passed on with white sandalwood, red willow, amyris, palo santo, patchouli blossom, Himalayan cedar, ylang ylang, opoponax and ginseng.

In vial: It smells green and cedary.

Wet on skin:   The cedar is prominent and starting to soften into something pretty.

Dry on skin:  Yep, that’s ylang ylang.   Ugh.   Instant headache.

Verdict:  I had to wash it off.   Other than the ylang ylang it’s very soft and pretty but it just doesn’t work for me.

Le Sacre Du Printemps-Aged patchouli, Ethiopian frankincense, vanilla absolute, pink musk, delicate lace and magnolia blossoms.

In vial:  Perfumy and a bit sharp.  I wasn’t looking forward to trying this.

Wet on skin:   Hmmm…I can’t quite decide if I like it or not.   I feel like I shouldn’t like it but I can’t stop going back and sniffing my arm as it dries down.

Dry on skin:  Wow, I really like this.   I never would have thought that I’d like it as much as I do, and the wet stage is a bit urinal cake-ish but as it dries it’s softens into something soft and spicy and just a bit perfume like.   This is pretty strong with a good throw.

Danse de la Terre-Dancing out of the Underworld. Persephone is free and the world is reborn in joyous celebration.

Escape the darkness with rejuvenating black Assam tea, dark coconut husk, aged vanilla resin, sacred sandalwood temple incense, earthen musk and shaved red mandarin zest.

In vial:  Coconut!

Wet on skin:  Coconut, sandalwood and a little bite of orange.

Dry on skin:  This has settled into a spicy orange tea on me.  Soft but bright at the same time this is the perfect light summer time scent.

Verdict:  I’m looking forward to aging the pip and seeing what happens!

*********************************************

Jeu du Rapt-Ritual of Abduction; thief of hearts. Evocative of the myth of Persephone and the betrayal and agony she felt as she was spirited away to the underworld.

Crimson pomegranate, Moroccan fig, smoked vanilla sugar, soft moss, amber resin, aged black tea and opium poppy resin.

In vial:   Lightly soapy and green.

Wet on skin:  Very green (moss) with some strong smoke/resin scent.  The strong scent is very off putting and smells a bit like fake leather scent.

Dry on skin:  The off putting strong scent has settled down.  Now I can smell the resins but I get no vanilla.   It softened quite a bit but there’s definitely something sharp here that I’m not loving.

Verdict:   I’ll be putting my imp away and retesting in a couple of months.  At this point I don’t care for it overmuch but I think aging will be good for it.

**********************************************

Rondes Printanieres-Spring Rounds. Warm, sweet and and renewing as the first day of Spring. This is the scent of hope.

Vanilla cream, pink hyacinth, ruby grapefruit, scarlet hibiscus, cake flour, caramelized coconut and raspberry infused patchouli.

In vial:  Very berry-ish and coconutty with a bit of cream.

Wet on skin:  Raspberry!   Now a bit of hibiscus, grapefruit and patchouli are coming out.

Dry on skin:  The grapefruit is coming to the front as is the vanilla.   I can also detect a bit of the cake flour…..what a lovely touch!   Reminds me of being in the kitchen.

Verdict:   This is a fun and unique blend but I think my decant will be plenty!

**************************************************

Cercles Mysterieux des Adolescentes-Exotic tuberose, pink peony, lychee fruit, orange blossom, vanilla bean, tonka, strawberry blossom, bergamot and sugar cane.

In vial:  softly aquatic floral.

Wet on skin:  the vanilla bean and tonka mix in and it’s really pretty.  I makes me think for a moment that I might be able to wear a white floral.

Dry on skin:  Ah, I was mistaken.  The floral has morphed into something old lady like on me.   White florals always do that on me.    I’m sure this will smell jaw droppingly sexy on the right person.

Verdict:   Beautiful, but not on me.  I’ll be passing my decant on to a friend of mine who smells divine in florals.

Mlle. Victoria’s lupertine Burlesque Cabaret

Mlle. Whiard
Wild strawberry, whipped cream, kiwi fruit, raw sugar and a pinch of clove.

In bottle:  Fruity burnt sugar.

Wet on skin:  I can smell the strawberry, cream and a bit of burnt sugar.

Dry on skin:   It’s a gorgeous fruity, sugary strawberry scent.  I can smell just a hint of the clove but none of the kiwi.

Verdict:  So glad I bought a bottle of this!  Normally strawberry scents don’t work at all for me but this is the perfect blend of sugar and fruit.

***********************************************************

Mlle C. de Villers: Pink grapefruit, red musk, French vanilla ice cream with a brandy soaked Moreno cherry on top.

In bottle:  Ice cream with brandy.

Wet on skin:   Ummmm…..I can smell the French vanilla ice cream and definitely the Moreno cherry!

Dry on skin:  It smells of candied cherry, red musk and super vanilla ice cream.  The cream note is not cloying or gross at all and the red musk just hovers on the outside.

Verdict:  I bought a bottle of this unsniffed and boy am I glad I did!  It’s amazing and hot and sexy and sure to be a go to for me.

Ravished:  Sweltering Tahitian vanilla heat, a mahogany headboard, silken crimson sheets pulled tight and notes of golden honey ooze over mouth-watering coconut mounds.

In bottle:  Citrus honey!

Wet on skin:  Yum, this is citrusy and sweet, with a bit of peach or apricot?

Dry on skin:  Oh man, this is amazingly lovely.  I can smell the vanilla, coconut and golden honey with just  touch of the wood.

Verdict: Drop.  Dead. Sexy.  Need moar!   If fruit can be sweltering and sexy than this is it.

Conjure Oils Yule 2011 Reviews

The Naughty List: Despite our best efforts to kiss up to the big guy in red, sometimes we can’t help but end up on the naughty list! Fluffy marshmallows slowly toasted over the fireplace flames, buttered rum spiked steamed vanilla milk, cacao musk, swirling pipe tobacco and a snicker doodle bribe.

In bottle: It’s smells like caramel or toffee candies!

Wet on skin: Now I’m getting the tobacco and cacao musk but I’m not getting much of the rum.

Dry on skin: I’m not getting the nastiness that I normally get from a cream/milk note and this isn’t a buttery blend to me at all. Granted, this is fresh out of the mailbox but I think it’s a really soft and sexy foody scent. Right now it’s pretty heavy on the tobacco and snicker doodle with a dash of fireplace flame.

Verdict: This is really gorgeous…just perfect! I think will only get more amazing as it ages. I also think it would be really nice layered with a good amber or sandalwood.

Cupid:
Sultry red musk, golden amber resin, red mandarin, crimson carnation and clove bud.

In bottle: Red musk and a bit of crimson carnation.

Wet on skin: Whoa, it’s all carnation at this point. Florals and I don’t normally play well together but if anything does work, it’s usually carnation. I can also smell a bit of the mandarin.

Dry on skin: Everything has settled down and the musk has come out to the front. After a little while the amber resin and clove make a gentle entrance. This is red musk done in the best smutty way possible.

Verdict: I’m soooo glad I got a bottle of this! I think this will age and soften nicely. I love the label with Santa’s sleigh and reindeer.

Maul Santa:
Because Killer Klowns need holiday work, too! Drunk before noon: Dark and boozy Bourbon vanilla, blackened coconut husk, toasted tonka bean, cherry pipe tobacco smoke and the suspicious scent of peppermint schnapps.
Leigh B.
Tennessee, USA

In bottle: It’s vaguely cologne-y with a bit of the peppermint. It’s an interesting combination!

Wet on skin: The peppermint is at the front closely followed by what I think is the tonka bean.

Dry on skin: This has settled down quite a bit and now I’m getting the cherry pipe tobacco and coconut husk. The peppermint schnapps definitely gives it an interesting snow note.

Verdict: I’m not quite sure about this one yet. I’m pretty sure I’m going to fall in love with it, but I also think it needs some time to settle and age as I tried it right out of the mailbox. The label shows a Santa drinking something right out of a bottle….hehe.

Snowbound:
Frozen musk topped by worn leather, sultry sandalwood and a drop of sweetest honey.
Vajra W.
Oregon, USA
Yule 2008 Winner

In bottle: Frozen musk all the way!

Wet on skin: The sandalwood and honey are mixing with the frozen musk.

Dry on skin: Everything has softened and blended into a gorgeous winter scent. I can smell all of the componenst, and the sweet honey and worn leather together are magic!

Verdict: Conjure Oils leather note it the only one I can wear and I’m so glad I didn’t miss out on this oil. It’s gorgeous and sexy and just a little bit slutty. I love it and it’s only going to get better with age.

Terra’s Spiced Gumdrop Gems: Terra spent all month in the candy caverns mining the perfect jelly gemstones that have just the right balance of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.

In bottle: Spicy gumdrops!

Wet on skin: It’s spicy but not in craft store sort of way. It really does spell like those sugar coated spice drops….especially the white ones which are my favorite. I think they’re the clove flavored ones.

Dry on skin: Well, this is beautiful. It manages to be candyish but in a really sexy and warm kind of way. It really does smell like spice drops but with an added grown up twist.

Verdict: I am so very glad that I bought a bottle of this. It’s a really amazing scent and I highly recommend it to those who like candy and sugar scents with an added spicy note. The label is a cute witch with gum drops in the background.

This collection is by far the best Yule collection I’ve yet to try.  Go thee and get some great smellies before they disappear and/or sell out!

Conjure Oils Yule Update-The Naughty List

There were several reasons that I was excited to see the Conjure Oils Yule update.  I’m a Christmas baby so I do love the holidays in any way, shape and form and for the most part I’ve struck out with other companies Yule collections.   I was instantly inspired when I heard that Conjure Oils was holding a contest to name and/or come up with a concept that would ultimately be used in the collection.   Low and behold my entry, The Naughty List was selected!   It’s also the name of the collection and I was honored to be able to provide the photo as well.

The Naughty List is described as such:

Despite our best efforts to kiss up to the big guy in red, sometimes we can’t help but end up on the naughty list!

Fluffy marshmallows slowly toasted over the fireplace flames, buttered rum spiked steamed vanilla milk, cacao musk, swirling pipe tobacco and a snicker doodle bribe.

You can check out the whole collection here and I highly recommend Conjure Oils, they are one of my favorite perfume oil companies.   Keep in mind, this is a limited edition collection so if you see something you like don’t wait…..these will disappear after the holiday season!

The Naughty List

Conjure Oils

I’ve been branching out and trying some different perfume oils lately and the newest that I’ve tried is Conjure Oils. Somewhat local for me in Portland, OR they are known as the ‘little perfume house that could.’ I’ve placed three or four orders so far and have some new top ten oils! Notes that don’t work on me from other companies seem to work for me with Conjure. For instance, I’ve never found a leather note that has worked for me other than Conjure.

http://www.conjureoils.com/main.htm

Conjure Oils TAT is a bit on the slow side, but Vajra is upfront about that and it’s right on the website. Those of you that like instant gratification (like me!) might get a tad impatient but I personally think it’s worth it. They are also opening a studio of sorts later this month in Portland where you can go to will calls and have custom consultations and such! I have experienced nothing but awesome customer service and I really like the choice of bottles you have with Conjure Oils. I personally prefer the roller ball bottles and CO offers those for some 5ml as well as the 10ml bottles.

I’m making an epic post of reviews for those that are interested!

Evocation des Ancêtres
In vial: Ok, maybe I’m crazy but this smelled just a *bit* like toothpaste!

Wet on skin: Ugh, so far not good. It’s super strong and powdery in a gas station incense sort of way.

Dry on skin: Well, this is just too heavy and incensy for me. It’s still going super strong, too. It’s almost given me a headache.

Verdict: Not for me but if you like heavy church incense then you’ll probably really like this one.

Cercles Mystérieux des Adolescentes
In vial: softly aquatic floral.

Wet on skin: the vanilla bean and tonka mix in and it’s really pretty. I makes me think for a moment that I might be able to wear a white floral.

Dry on skin: Ah, I was mistaken. The floral has morphed into something old lady like on me. White florals always do that on me. I’m sure this will smell jaw droppingly sexy on the right person.

Verdict: Beautiful, but not on me. I’ll be passing my decant on to a friend of mine who smells divine in florals.

**edited to add that it did indeed smell divine on her!

Adoration de la Terre
In vial: It smells like peach liquor without the liquor smell. Not as cloying as peach can be but super peachy at the same time.

Wet on skin: It smells like peach candy. I get just a touch of resin and toasted rice.

Dry on skin: This is actually really pretty. I’m generally not fond of fruity or peachy scents on me, but this is pretty sophisticated. The resin and tobacco add a nice, softly dark touch to this blend. The longer I wore it, the better this scent got. I slathered it all day.

Verdict: 10ml bottle worthy for sure!

Miss Lucy’s Beary Good Year
In vial: Blackberry jam!

Wet on skin: Super jamtastic with a hint of something that smells softly minty.

Dry on skin: This is very pretty and comforting. I can smell the teddy bear musk (I think that’s what was smelling minty earlier) and the cake and frosting have come out to play. VERY lightly floral which is good because floral doesn’t usually work on me.

Verdict: This is a fun and pretty scent and I think my decant will be plenty.

La Estrella (The Star)
In the bottle: this smells champagne-y and sparkly.

Wet on skin: Very sparkly and citrus, with a low undertone of something…….

Dry on skin: This is still a bright and shimmery blend but it’s got something a tiny bit dark and sexy going on. Maybe a little musk?

Verdict: I think my pip is enough but I’ll let it age a bit more and see if I need a bottle. This is a perfect summer time and morning scent. Invigorating and bright!

Las Cerezas (The Cherries)
In bottle: Luden’s cherry cough drops!

We on skin: Luden’s cherry cough drops….haha.

Dry on skin: Now it’s softening into something really soft and sexy. It’s still very cherry but I love everything cherry. I think I can smell the merlot more now but it’s not very strong.

Verdict: Bottle worthy because I love all things cherry! Cherry cough drops, cherry candy, cherry soda, black cherries….it’s all sexy on me.

Jeu Du Rapt
I received a decant.

Rondes Printanieres
In vial: Very berry-ish and coconutty with a bit of cream.

Wet on skin: Raspberry! Now a bit of hibiscus, grapefruit and patchouli are coming out.

Dry on skin: The grapefruit is coming to the front as is the vanilla. I can also detect a bit of the cake flour…..what a lovely touch! Reminds me of being in the kitchen.

Verdict: This is a fun and unique blend but I think my decant will be plenty!

Cherry Red Lipstick
At first I didn’t like this as it was all rose on me and rose doesn’t typically work. I was surprised because all cherry scents have worked for me so far. So I put it away for a while and let it age a bit. OMG…just tried it again and it’s gorgeous! The rose has settled down and the oil as a whole has softened quite and bit and become more full and velvety. On me this is cherry, a little bit of waxy lipstick, a little bit of spice with a tiny dash of rose.

Keep in mind that I like cherry scents of all kinds: medicinal, Jolly Rancher, cough drop, cough syrup, ripe cherries, black cherry etc. Any and all cherry seems to work on me.

Marie LaVeau
I loved this from the very moment I put it on. It’s simply delicious on me and I can’t stop huffing my arm. I really like Sarsaparilla and this is mostly Sarsaparilla with some smooth vanilla and booze. I’ve never had a booze note work for me but this is working just fine, thankyouverymuch.

I can’t wait to age it a little and see what it does. This is definitely a top 10 for me.

Arsenic Ambrosia
I love this. Definitely coconutty and lots of pineapple goodness abounds but it’s underscored with something bad and sinister.

I’ll definitely be purchasing a bottle.

El Sol (The Sun)
In bottle: citrusy and spicy.

Wet on skin: Very citrusy and lots of amber. It’s very sharp on me at this stage.

Dry on skin: This smells like an orange stuffed with clove buds with an added shot of sexy amber. We used to make these during the holidays when I was growing up.

Verdict: I’m not sure if this is bottle worthy for me. I’m going to let my pip age some more and see what happens….
